A bearing wall came out between the kitchen and the dining room, replaced by a flush beam the plaster could hide.

The constraint

The house stayed occupied, and a cast-iron stack sat two studs away from the cut.

Outcome

One room now, with the beam invisible and the stack relocated before the plaster crew arrived.
